How To Set-Up Your First E-Commerce Store

Business· Successful· Technology

7 Aug

E-commerce is a wonderful opportunity for anyone, because so long as you have a computer and an internet connection you can start your own site, start selling, and become a global success as time goes on. Not everyone, of course, will become such a success, but the equal opportunities offered by the Internet and social media mean you have a greater chance to get off your feet and even turning your part-time dream into a full-time career. To start, you will need to follow these steps to set up your e-commerce store:

Determine What You’ll Sell

The first step to starting any store or any business is to decide on what your business will be. As an e-commerce store this means knowing what your product is, where you will get your product, how you will keep up with demand, and so much more.

  1. How much product can you make

If you are making the product yourself, it is important to first build up a decent stock list of items. You can absolutely sell unique one-of-a-kind items on your e-commerce store, but you will first need a decent collection to keep your store stocked at all times. This will be easier in the beginning than it will be later.

  1. What can you source and from where

If instead of making your own products, you want to sell within a niche, you will first need to partner up with other businesses. For example, if you want to start a vegan beauty store in a country where vegan beauty products are hard to come by, you will likely need to stock up from businesses in other countries first. Make these connections and keep a selection of their stock ready to go for when you open your store.

  1. What will you price it at?

Finally, it’s time to figure out what price point you should choose. You can look online to see what others are selling, you could mark the price up a certain percentage on top of what it costs you to buy the product and have it shipped to you, and so on.

  1. Create Product Photography and Upload Your Items

Once you have your products, it is time to take product photos. Take photos against white and in scenes so that you can have a series of posts ready for social media as well as your store.

Set Up Your Online Website and E-Commerce Store

Once you have the basis of your store ready to go, it is time to start your website. The better the design, the easier users will find it when buying from you and the more they will trust you. Unless you already have a lot of experience with web design, it is best to invest in the services of a web development team like those at blackbeltcommerce.com. That way you can have a bespoke and custom store that users will trust, buy from, and refer to.

Market Your E-Commerce Store

Online stores can find a lucrative market on social media. People are becoming increasingly used to turning to social media to find niche stores for products they cannot find locally. That is why selling to a niche market can be so critical – you can build an audience of repeat customers easily from all around the world.

Once your store is finally up and ready for launch, remember that analyzing and making improvements is the name of the game. The more effort you put into improving, the greater the success you will be.
