20 Mar

If you love taking pictures, and fancy yourself a good photographer, there’s no city better for you to visit and take pictures than beautiful San Francisco. This city by the Bay has so many amazing attractions that beg to be photographed, that you could spend weeks here doing just that.

The key is however to make sure that you approach taking pictures in San Francisco the right way. According to photographer Charles Nucci, This requires a little bit of planning and a lot of paying attention to the environment. The result will be better pictures that you can be proud of and that all your friends will want to see and share. Here is a list of places for you to consider and a few suggestions on how to get the best pictures at these locations.

 Chinatown

San Francisco’s Chinatown is the country’s oldest, dating back to 1848. It’s that time this part of town has had a specific focus on everything Chinese. You will instantly know when you enter Chinatown because the signs, architecture and even language is all Chinese. This part of the city contains Chinese restaurants, worship temples, and places to purchase memorabilia that will fascinate and delight. They’re all so great celebrations that occur throughout the year in Chinatown. A sample includes Chinese New Year, and the Asian American Film Festival. If you were in town during either of these you’ll see lots of authentic Chinese entertainment that makes great picture taking opportunities.

Alcatraz Prison

No trip to San Francisco would be complete without visiting the iconic Alcatraz prison. This long closed facility was a federal prison that operated on an island in the San Francisco Bay. It is famous for its high levels of security. During its entire time and operation, it is said that no one ever escaped from Alcatraz, although 36 prisoners tried. Today tourists visit Alcatraz by the thousands and are treated with amazing sites inside the prison and on the prison grounds. There’s also Museum and part of the island is set up as a National Park Conservatory. There are picture taking opportunities everywhere and you should definitely bring a long lens to take pictures of San Francisco from the island.

Tips for taking great pictures

Bring a good camera:  Most will use their smartphone cameras to take pictures, but it is a much better idea to purchase a dedicated camera for your pictures. Smartphone camera technology is good, but it cannot match the quality of the pictures you get from a real camera. Your shots will be better, and when you share them or look to frame the pictures you have taken, you’ll see the big difference in the quality. To make your memories last invest in a good camera.

Take photos at different times of the day: Each of these attractions looks different at different times of the day. The placement of the Sun, the fog over the water, and the wind, all play important parts in the pictures you take. If you can you should try to get to each of these attractions at different times during the day and take shots. You’ll find that morning, afternoon and evening shots give you a completely different feel for the attraction.

San Francisco is a unique and beautiful city with attractions that are recognized as some of the most beautiful in the world. Take advantage of being here, and take lots of photos of these attractions, and it will make your trip more enjoyable and memorable.
