10 Essential Clothing Pieces Every Man Needs In Winter

Lifestyle

26 Jun

When the temperature drops and the days shorten, it’s clear that winter has arrived. In order to battle the chillier climes and rain storms, a new wardrobe is required. However, this doesn’t mean that style has to be compromised. In fact, winter dressing can look very sharp.

Stay warm and dry – but most important stylish – this winter with our list of 10 essential clothing pieces every man needs.

A weather-proof coat

The first item on your winter clothing shopping list should be a winter coat. There are many coat styles for men to choose from, but when it comes to battling the elements and ensuring you remain as warm and dry day and night, a down-filled parka jacket or a puffer jacket are both great options.

A roll-neck top

Roll neck tops are the perfect winter item because they can be layered under t-shirts, shirts and jumpers, and are great for keeping your neck and chest warm. Try layering a black roll-neck top underneath a black jersey sweater or a knit jumper and you will look chic whilst keeping warm. Or, instead of buying a roll-neck top, why not opt for a roll-neck knit jumper instead?

A knit jumper

Knit jumpers are a holy grail in any winter wardrobe – men’s or women’s. A fisherman’s knit jumper is a timeless piece and looks great in a number of colours, especially burgundy, navy and forest green. Pair a knit jumper with blue or black jeans to achieve the ultimate smart-casual ensemble. Or, if you want to look even smarter, why not invest in a cashmere cardigan to wear over a shirt.

A woolly scarf

When it comes to dressing in the winter, it’s easy to look stylish and sharp when you have the right accessories, like the perfect woolly scarf. Men’s scarves can elevate any winter outfit and are a great opportunity to inject some colour and personal style into an outfit. If your outwear is mostly dark colours you should buy a scarf that is a bolder shade or is perhaps patterned.

Gloves

Weather-proof gloves are a must cold and damp climes. Leather gloves are a great option (especially with workwear) because they look sharp and are practical. Better yet, opt for some leather gloves with tech-friendly fingertips so that you can still use your smartphone when wearing them.

Leather boots

When it’s damp and cold outside, the last thing you want to have to worry about is water seeping into your shoes and your feet getting wet. It really isn’t a nice sensation. To ensure your feet stay warm and dry through the winter, invest in a good quality pair of leather boots, e.g. lace-up or Chelsea boots. They are stylish, reliable and will last you for years.

A beanie hat

One of the easiest ways to get warm when it’s cold outside is to wear a woolly hat. Beanie hats are incredibly easy to wear – simply make sure it’s tight to your head and you will achieve ultimate style and practicality.

Denim jeans

Denim jeans aren’t just essential in a man’s winter wardrobe – they are a sartorial essential all-year-round because they are effortlessly stylish, timeless and versatile. However, a good pair of thick denim jeans has practical benefits, too, due to thick denim being a good insulator in colder temperatures.

A wool overcoat

So, you have your down-filled parka jacket or your trusty puffer jacket to keep you warm and dry when the weather is bad, but you should also have a wool overcoat to wear on nicer days. Topcoats like this are a lot more formal and are perfect to wear to work or on smart occasions such as dinner (as long as there isn’t a thunderstorm).

A leather bag

Complete your winter wardrobe with a stylish bag. Backpacks are a great option, but canvas materials aren’t entirely practical in the wet season. Opt for a more durable and waterproof material like leather, and for work consider a leather satchel which is both practical and sharp.

Make the best of the winter season by shopping for the above essential clothing pieces. Not only will you stay warm and dry, but you will look incredibly stylish in the process.
