How to Maintain a Great Patio Winter After Winter

Decor

12 Jul

Patios are great places to bring over friends for summer parties or to just spend as much time outdoors in the nature of your own backyard as possible. Patios, however, also take a lot of heat over the winter (and summers). Rock, brick, or concrete patios become overgrown, crack, or crumble, where wooden decks can also suffer from weeds and weathering over time.

To help keep your patio in tip top condition winter after winter all you need to do is follow these easy steps and to keep on top of a regular maintenance schedule:

Clear Weeds from Between Cracks

Weeds will start to spring up at the first sign of spring, which is when you should start investing time to weed. Focus, especially on areas where weeds might have the chance to grow through your patio, as this brings the risk of cracks and damage.

Invest in a Power Washer Rental

A great way to keep stone, brick, and even wood beautiful is to rent out a power washer. Follow all of the safety precautions like wearing worker’s boots and ensuring nothing fragile is in view and power blast away the dirt and grime. If you are doing this on your deck patio, you will want to follow up by sanding down your patio, staining it again, and then resealing it to reduce weathering in the future.

Choose Weather-Resistant Furniture

You will want to invest in furniture that can ideally be left out all winter long. The best materials are very thick, durable, and don’t break down. They should last you a lifetime.

Skip Custom Cushions and Opt for Covers

Cushions can become quite beaten up over time, especially if you aren’t perfect when it comes to bringing them inside after you are done using them or if the weather turns for the worse. That is why patio cushion replacement covers are so useful, and why you should have them on hand to keep your cushions in great looking condition. You will still want to be mindful with bringing in your cushions or storing them in a waterproof container outside, but with replacement covers your patio cushions can continue to look vibrant and like new.

Store or Protect Furniture During Winter

Your patio cushions and covers should be kept inside where it is dry during the winter. If you don’t have the means to buy winter-resistant patio furniture now, then you will want to try to find a place in your garage or in your basement where you can wrap up and store your patio furniture. This is how you will prevent your patio furniture from wearing down due to water and, more detrimental, the freezing and melting aspects of winter and spring.

A beautiful patio is not low maintenance. You will want to take good care of your outdoor furniture and patio space just as much as you would your indoor belongings. The extra care will make your patio set up last ages and be the perfect oasis every year moving forward.
